I have noticed on many other blogs that your period is referred to as a visit from Aunt Flo and I am not going to break with tradition as I think it sounds like a nice occurrence, a couple of hours sipping tea with Aunt Flo while reminiscing about the war.....
Aunt Flo finally visited today and just in time, you see my next IVF clinic appointment is on Monday and if Aunt Flo hadn't made an appearance by then it could have messed up the whole thing, or would that have meant I was pregnant and didn't need the bloody treatment?? Who knows! Shes here now so everything is going to plan.
I must let you in on a secret. I have found a way to minimise the pain of injecting. Now in summer it would be easy just to apply an ice cube to the area before injecting but becuse its still pretty cold at the mo I have found a different way. I first discovered this during physics class at school - no it wasn't part of the curriculum it was just because I was bored and had a compass in my pencil case.
Ok heres the science bit.... Under the skin we all have pain receptors, ok no surprise there BUT they are spaced out and have millimeters between them. Injecting between the receptors means no pain is detected so you wont feel anything.
To dodge the receptors is easy - just prick the skin with the needle many times around a small area, a couple of mm across. You will notice one area is very painful (this is on top of the receptor) and other areas are not so painful. One area that you prick will be pain free - now go for it and inject there. See its much better!
Right just one my injection and Im off to bed, speak again soon.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI've just started blogging myself and started reading other blogs about people who are also trying to start a family. I loved the info about the pain receptors, i remember that from school myself, but don't know if i would have been clever enough to remember about it when i needed it.
Best of luck,
Jules
