Right then, since my last panic blog on Saturday we have taken delivery of the IVF meds and they were still very cold so nothing has spoiled. You should have seen the size of the box though and all the stuff inside, I couldn't believe how many drugs I now have, heres a quick round up:
2 bottles of Suprecur (down regging drug injected daily for 21ish days)
6 boxes of Menupur (stimulating drug injected daily for 7-10 days days, starting at day 14)
2 packs of the last main injection (needs to be refrigerated)
3 Tamazepan tablets (sleepy drug for the egg collection operation)
1 sharps bin (for used needles) and a carry case
Shed loads of needles in various sizes
Shed loads off syringes
Boxes of pessaries (groan)
And one hell of a huge, bullet shaped suppository.
I had to laugh at the last one though, upon taking it out of the box and showing it to hubby, hubby uttered the expected line 'So what do you do with that - shove it up your arse?' he was laughing but his face dropped when I replied 'Yes dear I do, and I think you should be in charge of insertion seeing as the only thing you have to do is jack off into a cup'
The other thing that made his face drop (and turned his stomach) was the size of the pink needles. These bad boys are huge but luckily not used for injection, just to extract fluid from a vial into the syringe. Of course I didnt tell him this and made him think I was being very brave when I shrugged it off as just being 'something I will have to go through for the end result' I did tell him later though as he really did look worried.
My first injection was last night at 10pm and it was completely fine. They put instructions in the box in case you have forgotten what to do (which I had) and it was all very easy really. Hubby turned a very pale colour and although he was watching me, he was trying to look distracted and kept making the 'sucking through the teeth' noise that builders make when theyre quoting for a job. I fact I saw him wince when the needle went in and cringe when it came out, men really are big wusses arent they?
If your wondering about the needles, they are approx 5mm long and about the width of a human hair and they come attached to the syringes, they are so small that I needed my glasses on just to see them. The fiddly bit is holding the vial upside down with one hand and drawing back on the syringe with the other. Anyway its all done, there was no pain, no puncture hole in my thigh and no side effects - yet
I will let you know if I start to get any funny feelings, side effects, etc
