We got an appointment through to attend the IVF clinic in Jan to discuss our treatment and take a full medical history - again, oh and blood tests - again, and weight, height and blood pressure - again. It was if these guys didnt trust the tests we had done only a few months earlier.
So off we both went one Wed morning to talk to strangers about our sex life and personal bits and pieces - again. It seems really odd, talking about your periods with someone you have met for 2 minutes and cant remember her name (not as strange as discussing your periods with your Dad at the age of 13 - cringe)
When we arrive the staff are always polite and smiley but happily keep us waiting for 20 minutes then apologise constantly, Heres an idea, dont keep us waiting then you wont have to apologise for the rest of the meeting - grrr
We get taken into a room to be weighed and measured, well I've not lost any height recently, or any weight for that matter. Which is a good job because my BMI is 20 and they wont treat me if its less than 19. Hubbys weight goes un-noticed as its all measured in kg and I only know stones and pounds - very old school.
Talking about my weight, I have found that in this very cold climate I am burning hundreds of calories a day just keeping warm, this means in order to keep my weight steady I need to eat biscuits, crisps and chocolate like they are about to become extinct YAY! Its like a dream come true for my Galaxy/Kettle Chip addiction.
Then I have to de-robe sightly as I didnt know she would be taking my blood pressure and I wore my very snug fitting polo neck jumper. Seeing the arms were skin tight she did attempt to do the test over the jumper - bless her
The nurse then took us in to see the manager, forget her name, to talk about our bits. The office was small and was part of a huge victorian living room that had been made into offices. Hubby coudnt resist talking about the ceiling and lighting and comparing it to our own ceiling project which would be taking place soon, anything to take his mind off the question 'So do you ejaculate regularly?' hilarious!
Well the meeting lasted for 30 mins, during which time she drew diagrams of my ovaries and said they would grow to the size of grapefruits, which may be a little uncomfy for me - no kidding!
She also gave us some time scales, now we are used to being told 'someone will contact you in few weeks' so to be told we would be starting treatment after my next period was a pleasent suprise and a bit of a shock. Then reality hit me -I could be pregnant by April - Gulp!
